Iron Team Program

Iron Team (Freestyle Education Staff)

The NRM Iron Team (Freestyle Education Staff) continues to travel throughout the division providing coaching and assessment-based certificates to NRM members and member schools. The Iron Team is made up of NRM’s top Freestyle Educators and has a mission to maximize fun and safety while giving members an opportunity to grow as freestyle professionals.

The second-largest NRM event held annually by the Iron Team is ProPark, sponsored by MSAA and hosted at Great Divide near Helena, MT. This free event is an opportunity for snowsports instructors, freestyle coaches, and local shop pros to collaborate, network, and progress their skills in a minimal intimidation environment, as Great Divide is open only for event participants. That’s correct, no public!

NRM Iron Team IT (In Training) Program

The IT event includes information on event structure, setting the stage for success, safety/risk management, upholding the national standards, how to objectively communicate scores (especially for the failing candidate), multidiscipline consideration for ski/snowboard, standards demonstrations, and rider improvement with video for participants.

NRM Iron Team Coach Selections

The Iron Team is a collection of the most skilled freestyle riders/skiers/coaches in the Northern Rocky Mountain division. Each spring, a selection event is held to hire the team for the next season. Once having attended a Freestyle IT event, NRM members are invited to attend the selection event to earn a position on the Iron Team. A maximum of 13 coaches are chosen each spring during the two day event. To be eligible to attend the selection event, participants must be Level 3 certified in Alpine, Snowboard, or Telemark, be Level 1 certified in a second one of those disciplines, and have their FS 2 and CS 2 certificates. Those selected are required to attend a two-day paid training the following fall. Returning Iron Team coaches are also required to repeat this process annually.
