Alpine Clinics

Ski with Chi - Saturday
Curious about Tai Chi, curious about what this ancient Internal Art has to offer our modern ski technique? If so sign up and experience what a fresh and different perspective we can bring to our skiing from this internal art. We’ll start out our day on the carpet in the Wellness Center for an hour getting loose and centered as we develop a basic understanding of Tai Chi principles and posture. We’ll discover how the Tai Chi Chaun philosophy of energy movement and body movement combine as we work with some basic Tai chi warm ups, some forms or postures, and breathing techniques. Then we will have the opportunity to take these basic fundamental principles of Tai Chi Chaun posture, energy, and movement out on the snow as we explore how we can improve our modern ski technique by integrating these principles into our skiing. So come join us as we have fun learning about Tai Chi. Learn an alternative morning warm up routine, and improve our skiing by applying our new found understanding of Tai Chi. For the indoor session wear loose and comfortable clothing, low comfortable shoes, just wear sock or go barefooted.
NRM Ed Staff - Ric Blevins

Mountain Tour - Saturday
First or second time to Big Sky? Afraid you might get lost and end up at a different area? Want to explore the best that Big Sky offers? Two groups will be offering mountain tours... those looking for intermediate/easier experiences or those wishing to get into the steeps and bumps.
NRM Ed staff TBD, dependent on number of registrants.

The End is Here - Saturday
Prep clinics and exams are done! Let’s check out how you ski when you’re on a day off. Join us for a video clinic that focuses on skiing in the bumps, off piste, or laying some trenches. We will seek the best spots on the mountain and put you in front of the camera. Watching yourself ski can be a very effective learning tool. We will take some time indoors to watch and enjoy our successes.
NRM Ed Staff - Chris Wilson

Teaching Seniors - Sunday
I finally got it confirmed: I am a senior! At least at IHOP I can order from the seniors’ menu and get a discount! What else is there to look forward to? I asked a few of my clients over 60 just that. Their answers, “aches and pains, arthritis in the joints, Osteoporosis, Rheumatism, the eyesight going south, hearing impairment, hip and knee replacement, shoulder surgeries...” the list goes on and on. But with all that, my clients are still out on the slopes having fun on the groomers, in the powder and even in the bumps. They may not win a bump-off contest, but they can ski the moguls slowly with total control and confidence.
NRM Ed Staff - Ursula Howland

Recognizing the “Slightest Try ” and Why - Saturday
As skiers and instructors it is often easy to recognize the major changes that are accomplished but often fail to recognize the “Slightest Try” that lead to these benchmarks in our development in the sport. By definition to try is to ‘make an attempt to do or accomplish’ and by recognizing the ‘slightest try’ is to focus on that initial change that can be used as a building block and developed for the greatest reward. This clinic will work on recognizing these slightest changes in the psychological, tactical, technical, and/or physical aspects to help develop and improve you and/or your students performance.
NRM Ed Staff - Robert Morcom

From Flats to Faces - Sunday
Whether you are skiing in an area with 350 ft of vertical or 3,000 ft of vertical challenges in the terrain, snow conditions, degree of slope, weather, skier traffic, and other aspects can change how you approach the skiing environment to maximize your enjoyment of the adventure. This clinic will work on tactics and techniques that will improve your ability to enjoy all environments. You can also share your success in dealing with these challenges with others in the group.
NRM Ed Staff - Robert Morcom
