The NRM Iron Team (Freestyle Education Staff) continues to travel the division providing coaching and assessment-based certificates to NRM members and member schools. The Iron Team is the top NRM Freestyle Educators maximizing fun and safety while giving members a chance to improve their own freestyle skills. The Iron Team also hosts ProPark at Great Divide near Helena, MT. This free event is an opportunity for snowsports instructors, freestyle coaches, and local shop pros to collaborate, network, and improve their skills in a minimal intimidation environment, as Great Divide is open only for event participants.

The 2011-2012 season marks the first season for Freestyle Specialist National Standards. Northern Rocky Mountain Division (NRM) will be implementing the standards this season. PSIA-AASI National recognizes three levels of Freestyle specialty: Freestyle Specialist 1 (FS1), Freestyle Specialist 2 (FS2) and Freestyle Specialist 3 (FS3). Success is based on the individual’s attainment and application of discipline specific skill ability, educational expertise and experience related to teaching freestyle to the general public.

Requirements to participate in the FS1, FS2, and FS3 programs is level one certification in alpine, snowboard or nordic. Level three certified alpine, snowboar or nordic members are allowed to challenge and attend the FS2 or FS3 events without having attained FS1. Each level in the program has a workbook to be completed and a two-day on-snow event. Workbooks must be completed two weeks prior to the event and mailed/emailed to the NRM office or Freestyle Chair for scoring. For those members who have already attained a freestyle credential in NRM, you have the equivalent of FS1.
