Children's Snowsports Education Event Descriptions

Ken Breon Kids Clinics (KB Kids)
Led by members of the children’s education team, this introductory educational course will be held both on and off snow. This clinic is a 1-day introduction to teaching children of all ages and abilities. This clinic is great, whether you’ve been teaching for one season or 30 you will gain something from it. One seasoned instructor who took this clinic in 2009 wrote, “This was one of the most informative clinics I have ever attended!”

Children’s Specialist 1 and 2

2009 ACE in AlaskaLed by members of the children's education clinician team, this educational course will be held both on and off snow and will investigate how children and teens move, behave, and learn as they grow. Additionally, the clinicians will facilitate discussions and activities that will help instructors design lesson plans that encourage exploration of the mountain environment on skis or snowboards. Instructors will be given a self-study handbook that quizzes their knowledge about the information shared during the course as well as information referenced from the PSIA Children's Instruction Manual (Can be borrowed from fellow instructors or purchased from the NRM office or the PSIA Accessories catalog prior to the start of the course).

Instructors completing the two-day course, along with the workbook will receive either their Children’s Specialist 1 or 2 (depending on which course you took). This event is two days of any snowsports discipline. Level 1 certification in any discipline is a pre-requisite to the CS1. To take the CS 2 an instructor must have a certification level of 2 in any discipline. Completion of the Children’s Specialist 1 and 2 program (clinic plus workbook) is required for all DCEs.
