2010 NRM Board of Directors Elections
NRM operates largely on the basis of volunteer efforts. All of the program chairs, board members and officers are volunteer positions.

This spring there will be three open seats. There are seven total. Once elected, the new board members will take office at the spring 2010 board meeting.

Anthony Brown
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the membership of the division, and express my interest in running for the board of directors of NRM.
My name is Anthony Brown (more commonly known as Tony). I have been involved in the ski industry off and on since the late 1970’s. I learned to ski at Teton Pass west of Choteau, MT, where I grew up. I worked at the ski area while in high school. I was introduced to many different aspects of ski area operations from teaching skiing to lift maintenance to grooming and road maintenance. This is where I was really bitten by the ski bug. I moved to Bozeman in 1983 and went to work for Marrianne Pence and Larry Merkel at Chalet Sports where I stayed until 1990.
I finished my bachelors degree in 1993 from Arizona State University in Wildlife Conservation Biology. I started my construction company in 1994. My company has done business in three states in the last 16 years. In 2006-2007 I took on a custom home that consumed my winter. I did not ski at all that winter. That spring I decided I would never spend another winter that did not include skiing. I went to work at Bridger Bowl the following winter.
I have the ability to work with others, particularly people from divergent backgrounds. I like to include as many points of view as possible before making decisions. This is the way I build consensus. I think PSIA -NRM is one of the best organizations I have dealt with. The division leadership is very aware that the members are the division. I look forward to helping the members make our division and national organization even better!

I have been very active in the division since coming over from the Western Division. Many of my efforts have been on the organizational side of the Nordic discipline such as revising the disciplines paperwork, creating the Nordic Committee, and scheduling events. I have been innovative in adding basic avalanche education, Nordic Education Series and Cross Country member development. I hope to continue to help NRM excel as a member of the board. As many of the members who are involved in the Nordic discipline can attest I am very open to member feedback and request your (the members) input to guide the direction of the division. My professional experience working for the National Outdoor Leadership School as an administrator and an instructor will continue to provide an outside perspective to the divisions operations. I want to continue this in the future so I can serve as your representative to the board. It is an exciting time to be involved with PSIA-NRM and I hope you will vote for me.
Thanks for your consideration
Travis Hewitt
In my eleven years of being a professional ski instructor, I have achieved joining the DCE IT program, I am a staff trainer at my home mountain where I have been for eight years, Intermediate freestyle trainer accredited as well as ACE certified. I have also watched the Northern Rocky Mountain Division change for the better. I would like to become a bigger part of the division to reach an even higher standard within the industry. My vision is to integrate all of the mountains within the division to achieve better communication and continue moving the division in the right direction.
Sincerely,
Travis Hewitt
Steve Hill
Hello all, currently I am serving NRM on the board and as vice president (term expires this year). Also, I serve as the Alpine Chair (term also expires this year) and examiner. I have been active in this division, education and certification, for many years. During the course of the season, I have the opportunity to listen to many of the members and their needs. I am able to take these ideas to our board meetings as well as the national PSIA meetings. It is my desire to continue my service to PSIA-NRM and you, the members. Please support my candidacy for board member.
Sincerely,
Steve Hill

Heidi Maier
My name is Heidi Maier and I am “throwing my hat into the ring” for a seat on the NRM Board of Directors. I have been an active member of PSIA-NRM since 1998 when I earned my Alpine Level I at Terry Peak SD. From that time I have worked my way through the NRM division, not only at Terry Peak but also, Garmisch Germany, Big Mountain Montana (when it was still part of our division), and finally to the Yellowstone Club. I am currently an Alpine level III, Adaptive level I, Snowboard level I certified. I also work as a trainer at the Yellowstone Club working with the other instructors of our training team through the DCE-IT program.
Being a member of the same division since I have started ski instructing has given me a vision for where we could go in the future. As a member of the NRM Board of Directors I will bring fresh ideas to the table. By working together within our division through training events, and communication I am positive we can make this a stronger division. I am hard working and want to make NRM work for you.
Thank You!
Paul Neuman
Hi, my name is Paul Neuman and I am running for the NRM Board of Directors. For those of you who do not know me, I currently work full time at Yellowstone Club Snowsports as a supervisor and staff trainer.
I have been a member of NRM for the last six years and during that time NRM has been a great home for me where I have grown tremendously, personally and professionally, and I would like the opportunity to give something back to the membership, my friends, and colleagues.
As a member of the Board I would encourage NRM to continue to make our offerings as inexpensive and accessible as possible while maintaining the high quality of our products. Considering the much higher expense and time investment required in other divisions for certification and continuing education, NRM does a fantastic job of keeping expenses down, and clinics accessible to as much of the membership as possible, by the volunteer efforts of our staff, as well as the camaraderie and cooperation within the division. I would continue to foster this culture within NRM.
I would also like to see NRM to continue to participate in the dialogue concerning national standards and certification to ensure that NRM continues to be a leader in creating great instructors, and ultimately, great products for our clients.
Lastly, I want NRM to work more closely with our neighboring divisions to possibly offer a joint Fall Fest or Spring Carnival like event to offer even more opportunities for our membership to grow.
I feel that through my personal and professional contacts and friends throughout the division, I am in a great position to hear and represent the needs of the membership. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have at 406-600-1735 or pdneuman@gmail.com. I appreciate your support and look forward to serving the members of NRM.

Please vote, whether you vote for me or any other candidate. Your participation in divisional democracy makes a huge difference in the outcomes and direction of the Northern Rocky Mountain division. It only takes a few minutes and your vote truly counts.
I have been a member of NRM since the late 70s and a Red Lodge Mountain Resort instructor for the last 24 years. Professionally, I’m a retired special education teacher and coaching high school speech. Within my part-time professional ski career I’ve attained Alpine III and Adaptive III certifications, have a Children’s
Accreditation. Previously I served on the NRM board (2.5 terms) and currently have served on the Adaptive Committee (7 terms.)
Life changes allow me the opportunity to again participate in the division in a more significant manner compared to recent years. Definitely, I could expound on all my talents of why you should vote for me but I would just be wasting your time with boring information that does not really matter. I will bring to the table a common sense approach to the changing needs of NRM. I am familiar with the work it takes to be on the board and I have the commitment to the division. I would appreciate your vote.
Zack Rogala
Howdy All. My name is Zack Rogala and I seek your support in the upcoming PSIA-NRM Board of Directors election. The reasons that I believe I am a qualified candidate for our divisions Board of Director position are:
Motivation. I grew up skiing at Lost Trail Powder Mountain and have a vested interest in this state and how our industry factors into the overall well being of our Montana community. I view the Board of Directors as a medium with which the public and the industry can most effectively collaborate. It is in strengthening this medium that I am interested.
Experience. I have taught skiing full-time for the past six years. Three years have been spent at Bridger Bowl and three at the Hausberg Ski Lodge in Garmisch, Germany. I am a level III Alpine instructor, an Accredited Children’s Educator, and a member of the DCE-IT Pool. Also, I am currently chief fundraiser and executive director for two statewide student organizations. From these positions I feel I have an appropriate understanding of what it takes to represent PSIA-NRM members in an unbiased fashion.
Education. I’m graduating from undergraduate studies at MSU and am seeking to continue my education with positions such as the PSIA-NRM Board of Directors. I understand that I would have much to learn in this position. But I also realize that this process cannot be rushed. Others say it best with ‘Move slow to go fast’.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to working with you in the future.
Greg Sponseller
I would like to announce my candidacy for the PSIA-NRM board position. I have served on the board in the past and would appreciate the chance to serve the membership again. I am currently on the Alpine committee and examiner. Over the past years, I have worked for both small and large snow sports schools within NRM. I am aware of the challenges facing these instructors and their needs. I would like to be your voice in directing PSIA-NRM into the future. Please support my candidacy with your vote.
Thank you for this opportunity,
Greg Sponseller
