PSIA-NRM Alpine Chair Reports
Alpine Report - October 2007 by Steve Hill
GOOD MORNING N.R.M.
Hey, I’m stepping in for Nick as Alpine Chair. Yeah, big boots to fill as I’m a 25.5 and he’s a 29.5, So,
I’ll just wad up a few of his past reports shove them
into the toes of my boots so I’m good to go. If Brent
Aimsbury sees this, I’ll have a new job as boot fitter!
But seriously, many thanks to Nick for all his hard work and time in N.R.M.
I know we’re looking forward to yet another great
ski season and Fall Fest is just around the corner.
We have put together another great line-up of
clinics — some of the old faithfuls and a few new
one that will get you pumped for the upcoming
season.
The
past spring and fall alpine meetings have helped us
look at the way we all want to look at the movement
patterns in our skiing, thus getting closer to the
National standard. I know you all have seen this
in past clinics and exams — the blending of
movements for the task and conditions at hand ...
co-zality. More about this at your favorite clinic. We
also worked on a few house cleaning issues: new score
cards; new descriptions of tasks; a new, clearer description
for your path towards being a Clinician or
Examiner.
That’s it for me.O.K. so putting out an article for me is like skiing a
double fall line…. A double what the @#$ is a double
fall line!
See ya on the hill, Steve

Spring Skiing is here and there is a lot of corn snow to go around. Everything is rolling along great in the NRM Alpine world. We have had some great success with some new educational clinics and we are starting to create and implement a freestyle accreditation process for our division.
Dave Oliver, a Freestyle Examiner from the Rocky Mountain division had a chance to visit Big Sky and Bridger Bowl this past month to help strengthen our division on this subject. From his visit we were able to get 6 of our DCE Team certified at the Freestyle Intermediate Level through the Rocky Mountain Division. The DCE Team will continue the education and development of what they received from this clinic to create a freestyle accreditation program of our own in the NRM Division for next year. Dave was also able to put on a freestyle clinic at Bridger Bowl which was a huge success. He also worked with the area management team of Bridger Bowl to evaluate possible terrain that could be developed for terrain park use. Dave's visit was a huge asset to the continuing development of the freestyle arena for the NRM Division. The Alpine Committee and DCE Team look forward to seeing this area grow in our division and hopefully attract a larger and diverse crowd to our membership.

Another very exciting event that is occurring this coming season is the North West Division's Symposium that will be taking part in Big Sky, MT April 13th – 15th. So if you are looking for a fun way to get some educational credits, sign up through the NW Division. The Intermountain Division will also be taking part in this event which makes it that much more exciting. It is also a great opportunity to attended clinics led by two other division's examiners and clinicians as well as a few National Team Members. I know I am not going to miss out on this event. For more information go to www.psia-nw.org or call the NW Divisional Office at (206) 244-8541.
Have a great Spring and Summer!
