By Christine Baker, Alpine Committee Chair
Summer is coming to a close and we are starting to gear up for another great winter of playing on the
slopes. Your Alpine Committee has been working on our regular projects – reviewing last year’s
schedule and setting this year’s schedule of events, reviewing and updating tests and reviewing our
operating procedures. In addition, the committee has also been involved more on the national level ‐
taking part in the discussion of the possibility of a national test bank and a national Level I process.
As a unique division within a national organization it is important for us to represent you, the
membership, well. PSIA‐NRM covers a large geographic area with many small member schools, many
part‐time instructors and many miles between the members and schools. It is the Alpine Committee’s
wish to be a strong voice in the national discussion so that if a national process is implemented it will be
in a way which supports the membership, both schools and individuals, of NRM.
We are excited to continue the Fall Fest format which was so successful last year. Likewise, we are
happy to announce that Nick Herrin and Jeb Boyd, from the PSIA National Alpine Team, will both be
back to join us this year – and we are adding an additional day of skiing with a National Team member.
This year Nick will work with our Examiner, Clinician and IT groups each for a day before leading an
Alpine Core group Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings followed by electives in the afternoon. Jeb will
work with the Area Clinician group on Thursday before leading Alpine Core Friday and Saturday
mornings with electives in the afternoon. If you have skied with Nick and Jeb before, you know how
passionate and inspirational they both are. If you have not skied with them before, make sure you don’t
miss out on this opportunity to get your season started on the right foot.
Enjoy what the rest of summer and fall have to offer and maintain your summer fitness routine (or start
your winter conditioning program) because winter will be here before you know it.
Cheers,
Christine
